A suspect in the October 25 criminal sexual assault of an 8-year-old boy near the skate park at the Civic Center in Traverse City has been arrested and lodged in the Grand Traverse County Jail. Around 3 p.m. yesterday, detectives from the Traverse City Police Department executed a search warrant on a residence in Alden, approximately 25 miles northwest of Traverse City. During the search, evidence was recovered related to the sexual assault and, with the assistance of deputies from the Antrim County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect – a 26-year-old male from Alden – was arrested on charges of criminal sexual conduct in the first degree and taken into custody. The suspect’s name is being withheld pending authorization of charges and arraignment in the 86th District Court. He does have a prior conviction of sexual assault, previously served a prison sentence with the Michigan Department of Corrections, and is a registered sex offender.
