Outdated Interlochen Plaza Razed

The long-standing shopping center behind Ric's Food Center in Interlochen has been torn down. There are no plans to replace it, says Green Lake Township Supervisor Paul Biondo. The Oleson family owns the corner of U.S. 31 and M-137 where Ric's and a Northwestern Bank office continue to operate.

Over the years, the plaza was home to a laundromat, dollar store, pizzeria, hardware store, gun shop, pharmacy, computer store and more.

"The building became outdated and we wanted to clean up the area," said company spokesman Brad Oleson. "In the spring, we'll put some top soil down and make it look nice."

This is a welcome change to the area, it was old and out dated, green will be nice to see in its place.

Would love a drugstore there.

I'd love to see a drug store on that corner. I miss the Community Drugs from years ago.

If only Ric's would become a cleaner, vibrant store..Like hteir store in Rockford...more appealing then we would shop there.
They have an opportunity to be an upscale and good foods store in a sea of sameness...

Finally! That building has been an eyesore for too long. Interlochen needs business infrastructure, sewer and water improvements. Removing this horrid, empty, outdated building is a start. Thank you to the Olsen family for stepping up. Next request--clean up, improve, and update the building that remains. Regular maintenace on your properties should be a given. Help make Interlochen to be the best that it can be!

This is wonderful! Please, more green. Will there be trees planted?

As said as it is to see any business close, the "Interlochen Corners" area was looking like a blighted area with all those old and empty dated building spaces. The new green space will do much to improve the look and feel of the area. Now, if someone would buy or clean up the old, little water park nearby ..this would improve the area too. Good job Mr. Oleson!

Would have been nice if you had mentioned North Bay Homes and Maggie's resale shop located in the Rick's Plaza as well. We need the free publicity!
