The Munson Healthcare Board of Directors is giving a huge gift to Traverse Health Clinic: $300,000 of direct financial support for the clinic to provide primary care during the next year. Traverse Health Clinic is a major provider of health care for the area's uninsured. In 2011 it provided access to health services to nearly 3,000 individuals. Intended to strengthen the clinic’s safety net services for the uninsured during the current uncertain times for health care funding, the gift is just a part of the $11 million in services Munson Healthcare has donated to Traverse Health Clinic in the last seven years, says Arlene Brennan, Traverse Health Clinic's executive director: “We’re very thankful Munson has stepped up with this cash gift to assist us in this time of transition.”
While that is a remarkable gesture on Munson's part, It's the budget cuts by the city that are crippling the Trverse City Clinic. An uninsured employee called yesterday to have strep throat treated and he was sadly informed by the clinic that due to recent budget cuts, they could not see new patients....WOW.
