For the sixth year in a row, Michigan.org, the state's official travel and tourism website, is the most visited state tourism website in the country. WIth nearly 1 million more visits than the number two state tourism website, VisitFlorida.com, Michigan.org received 7.1 percent of the overall market share, according to the independent online measurement company Experian Hitwise. In 2012, the website recorded more than 8.8 million visits with consumers using the site an average of 24,000 times per day. Click-throughs to other Michigan tourism industry sites totaled an average of 14,000 per day and 5.3 million for the year.
I want to applaud the Pure Michigan organization for a job well done and bringing to light some of the most beautiful places in the country that we all share living here in Michigan.
With that said, I hope they do not derail this accomplishment by getting involved in politics. Coming out in support of a Right to Work State and Living in Michigan with a unionized work force of almost 18%, is biting your nose off to spite your face. Many of our tourism dollars come from well paid union workers.
