Major Renovations Planned for Holiday Inn West Bay

Expect big changes – coming soon – to the 179-room Holiday Inn West Bay. ValStone Partners, LLC, a Michigan-based private equity firm, has acquired the property and plans to "immediately" invest in a multi-million dollar comprehensive hotel renovation — one expected to be completed before the summer 2013 vacation season. Interstate Hotels & Resorts has assumed management of the hotel. A wholly-owned subsidiary of a 50/50 joint venture between subsidiaries of Thayer Lodging and Jin Jiang, Interstate Hotels & Resorts, Inc. manage 372 hotels across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific and has agreements to manage 45 hotels under construction or development throughout the world. Although no concrete plans have been revealed yet, Gerald C. Timmis, III, senior managing director of ValStone Partners, LLC says, "We are delighted to be investing in this Lake Michigan jewel and contributing to the local economy. Holiday Inn West Bay has been a fixture in the Traverse City community for decades. When we’re finished with the planned improvements, the hotel will be positioned to welcome a whole new generation of travelers to this popular destination resort.”

We hope you have enlisted an architectural firm that can help achieve a clean sophistication with landscaping that will more appropriately welcome residents to the gorgeous Grand Traverse Bay The current hotel has not represented the natural elegance of this beautiful area well for a very long time. Even the color of it is nearly blinding to the eyes when the sun hits it! We have our fingers crossed that your remodel that will indicate your talent and also your ability to integrate that with an understanding and respect for the natural beauty of this area.

This is such great news - it has needed a renovation for such a long time! Can't wait to sit out on that patio, have a glass of wine and watch the sunset once the renovation is complete.

Hopefully they can take the yahoo factor out of the patio; it is trashy. The food is crap and who wants to drink out of a plastic cup on that wonderul location? Make it a classy dining area and they will come.

Wonderful; this location has needed a make over for a long time. I cannot wait to see the finished project. I agree with Marc I hope that they keep the patio and entertainment.

Marc on September 5, 2012 9:46am

This location is a treasure and Holiday Inn really let the place fall apart. The place is a dump and needed to be renovated so bad. I hope they keep the patio or some sort of similar outdoor area for relaxation and entertainment open to the public.

This is very exciting news. The hotel has needed a fresh set of eyes for some time. Hopefully everyone involved as well as the residents will embrace the positive changes to the hotel.
