New training agreements with five local companies will lead to 62 new jobs – all paying above $12.95 an hour – in the region by 2016. Under the terms of Michigan's New Jobs Training Program (NJTP), Northwestern Michigan College will provide training and professional development to new employees at the following companies:
Armor Express, Central Lake, 6 jobs
Century Extrusion, Traverse City, 5 jobs
Moran Iron Works, Onaway, 8 jobs
Precision Edge Surgical Products, Boyne City, 18 jobs
Shoreline Fruit, Traverse City, 25 jobs
The companies pay for the training and are reimbursed over time as payroll tax dollars are diverted. NMC also currently has NJTP agreements in place with Traverse City companies Electro-Optics Technology and Century, Inc., with 19 and 29 new hires, respectively.
100% agree with the above comment! Also at $12.95 per hour that is less than 27K per year. You cannot raise a family on that and as an individual there better be health care or the new tax will leave you barily above the poverty level. Tax breaks should only go towards jobs with quality pay. It is a jobs program for NMC.
