Hollywood Premiere Slated for TC
A scene from "Hit & Run," which will premiere in TC on August 2.

Hollywood is headed to Traverse City this summer, and The Ticker has the first details.

Traverse City Film Festival Founder Michael Moore tells us that the highly anticipated Hollywood film Hit and Run will premiere in TC's Lars Hockstad Auditorium on August 2. The co-stars of the film, Dax Shepard (of TV's Parenthood) and Kristen Bell (Sarah of Forgetting Sarah Marshall and TV's Veronica Mars) are scheduled to attend the premiere. The two are Michigan natives and are engaged to be married.

The film, about a former getaway driver who busts out his witness protection program identity in order to help his girlfriend get to Los Angeles, also stars Bradley Cooper of The Hangover, Beau Bridges, and Tom Arnold.

Moore also opens up about the outdoor films to be shown at the Open Space. Audiences can expect:
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Rebel Without a Cause
When Harry Met Sally
Wall*E

The public will decide the final outdoor film via a "People's Choice" vote online. The six finalists:
Across the Universe
Beetlejuice
Fantastic Mr.Fox
Footloose
(1984)
From Russia with Love
Sixteen Candles

Write-in voting is also allowed. Cast your vote by following this link through July 6.

"I also want to say that this is the people's festival," adds Moore, noting that he wants to be sensitive to the difficult economy.

"I refuse to raise ticket prices, but the economy has caught up with us. So I instead prefer to increase income and not cut anything. We'll actually be adding this year," he says, announcing this year's Fest will feature a record 101 movies and a move of the most popular films to larger venues.

So what else should people know about this year's festival?

"Just that I'll stake my name that these are all fantastic movies. I've been very, very careful to pick really good movies … not all out on the fringe or for niche audiences, but really, every movie is worth taking a leap of faith to go see," says Moore.

You're also seeing the original poster (pictured above) for the first time here. Designed by Festival Volunteer Art Director Gabriel Augustine, it includes images from the first seven years of the Festival.

The 2012 Traverse City Film Festival runs July 31 through August 5, 2012. Ticketing begins on July 15 for Friends of the Film Festival. Public ticket sales begin on July 21. The box office is located at 125 Park Street, across State Street from the Park Place Hotel.

Hooray for the TCFF and the emphasis on Real Good Films and Really Good Local Food at all of the movie venues this year. While we are always ready to supply the Green Rooms with Good Food THIS year TCFF is going to feature more local food offerings at its various concessions. Hooray-- Films are Art, Food is Art and Community is Art and Traverse City has all three.
