This winter, Traverse City West and Traverse City Central high school hockey teams will go toe to toe at an outdoor rink in Comerica Park during the Hockeytown Winter Festival. This Saturday, they're raising the money to get there. The Central hockey team will set up at Bill Marsh on South Garfield while the West team will be located at the Bill Marsh Body and Paint Center on South Barlow. Both teams will work to raise money at their respective sites by selling car washes, grilled hot dogs, bake sales and more. The fundraising runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bonus: Bill Marsh will donate $5 for every oil change on Saturday at both Pit Row on South Garfield and Valvoline Oil Express on US-31 South. (Customers can choose which team gets the $5.) The Traverse City teams are two of only 16 teams that were selected to play (of 60 that applied). The $10 tickets for the Comerica event are expected to be available in September and available at high school athletic offices and from hockey boosters.
