Heavy Weights, New Race for Bigs

Big Brothers Big Sisters, in partnership with Fit For You Health Club, Anytime Fitness, and Fitt Chick, raised $8,000 for their organization at a recent Lift for Kids benefit. Weightlifters competed in several divisions, with men lifting their entire bodyweight and women lifting one-half of their body weight as many times as possible. The winners in the men’s division: ages 20-35, Jon Nickels; ages 36-50, Glen Breaux; over 50, Don Alford. In the women’s division: ages 36-50, Shawn Wiitanen; over 50-Sally Pomante. Another BIG Success: The upcoming BIG Little Labor Day Trail Races have been recognized as a quality physical activity event by the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness. The BIG Little Labor Day Trail Races are a 5K and 15K trail run/walk coming up Sept. 3 in southern Grand Traverse County. The races benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Michigan and have been organized by Marathon4Kids founder Tony Anderson who has worked with more than 15 different landowners to set up a unique off-road course through tree farms, orchards, wooded land and open meadows that will be open to the public for one day only. To register, visit www.marathon4kids.com.
