Confused about all the drama with the Grand Traverse County septage treatment plant – and the outcry over the recent assessment proposed to help pay for it? You can hear both sides of the issue on the latest edition of UpNorthTV's new debate program, CrossTalk North. On one side: Union Township Supervisor Doug Mansfield contends that the public's frustration about the assessment wasn’t necessarily about the money but that the assessment was “taxation without representation,” since some of the townships hit with the assessment have had no seat on the Grand Traverse County Board of Public Works, which decided to assess the tax. On the other side: Garfield Charter Township Supervisor Chuck Korn, who argues that the assessment was a fair amount, and would provide financial stability to Grand Traverse County's financially battered septage treatment plant, which without the fee, is estimated to lose at least $200,000 annually. Who's right? You be the judge. Moderated by David Poinsett, the CrossTalk North septage debate will air Thursday, October 25 at 8 p.m., and Friday, October 26 at 8 p.m. on cable channels 97 and 992. Bonus: You can also stream the show online here.
