Yesterday, a deputy from the Grand Traverse Sheriff’s Office arrested a fugitive from Kentucky. The 47-yearold man was arrested by a deputy who was conducting a property check at the Fish Lake boat launch in Mayfield Township. After identifying the subject via his fishing license, the deputy discovered the subject was wanted by the Bullitt Co. Sheriff’s Department in Shepherdsville, Kentucky. The warrant, which had been issues in December 2011, was for auto theft, burglary second degree, and receiving and concealing stolen property. Upon checking the subject's vehicle, the deputy found that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Indiana in June of 2012. The subject has been lodged at the Grand Traverse County Jail on fugitive charges and possession of a stolen vehicle. He is expected to be arraigned on today and will await extradition to Kentucky. UPDATE: The Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office is identifying the fugitive arrested as Robert Leroy Sheldon, born 8-28-1965.
THANK YOU to all the law enforcement officers for their devotion to keeping our community safe. My Dad was a retired Police Officer and he loved his job. It was very dangerous for him at times but he put the greater good of others before himself.
