The Dennos Museum Center's free Community Cinema Series kicks off this week. The first film? Half the Sky (edited for time) by Maro Chermayeff screens September 6 at 7 p.m. in Milliken Auditorium. A panel discussion will follow the film, which is a preview to the four-hour PBS primetime documentary film airing nationwide on PBS October 1 and 2. Inspired by Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, the widely acclaimed book by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, the film follows Nicholas Kristof and celebrity activists America Ferrera, Diane Lane, Eva Mendes, Meg Ryan, Gabrielle Union and Olivia Wilde on a journey to tell the stories of inspiring, courageous individuals in 10 countries.
