A flurry of winter races and outdoor activities—all perfect ways to boost your health while embracing the region’s cold and snow—are set for this month and next. Up first: the Traverse City Track Club’s annual Frozen Foot Race, a five-mile run starting at 10 a.m. this Saturday [Jan. 12] at the base of Old Mission Peninsula. Prefer hiking to running? Grab a pair of snowshoes and test your endurance at the Big Foot Snowshoe 5K and 10K Race Jan. 19 at Timber Ridge Campground on Traverse City’s east side. On Feb. 2, the second annual Runaway Hen Snowshoe Scamper will take you through the scenic Brengman Brothers Crain Hill Vineyards in Leelanau County. The next day marks the annual Women’s Winter Tour, taking place Feb. 3 on the Leelanau Trail and finishing at Black Star Farms. Skiers can take to the trails for the 37th annual North American Vasa Race Feb. 9. And new this year, enjoy the YetiFest in Suttons Bay February 16.
You missed the First Annual Leelanau Outdoor Center Snowshoe Stampede on 2/2 at 10:30a. Registration includes race goodies and lunch following the race. All net proceeds benefit the LOC Tuition Assistance Program for local schools. For more info to to www.locprograms.org.
