Did you know? October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Fittingly, the TCAPS board last week approved bringing the internationally recognized Olweus Bullying Prevention Program (OBPP) to all 19 district schools. (Read about some problems with cyber-bullying at local schools here.) To celebrate and support TCAPS' efforts, TC's Conflict Resolution Services is raising funds to support the training of TCAPS staff in the OBPP. How can you help? You can donate here – all funds raised before October 31 go directly to TCAPS staff OBPP training. You also can support TCAPS by participating in Downtown Traverse City's "Shop Your Community Day" on November 10. Just choose Conflict Resolution Services when you shop, and 15 percent of your sales will be donated to the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program.
wait, aren't they asking me to chip in to their 100 million dollar fund too?
best way to control cyber bullying is to be more proactive with parental controls on school issued netbooks. Every kid in high school gets one to use every day (and every weekend) during the school year. Give parents a way to monitor what our kids are doing online. There are NO parently controls available to monitor/block sites or control access to web chats or facebook.
AND - they should block use of chats and facebook during school hours!!
both of these would help control cyber bullying!
