If you see a lot more bald heads around town this weekend, it's likely the handiwork of St. Baldrick. Some local establishments are hosting head-shaving fundraisers for the St. Baldrick's Foundation this Patty's Day weekend. Here are three opportunities to cheer the brave souls on or get involved in the fun yourself, and raise money for a cure for childhood cancer:
Fri., Mar. 15, 6-9 p.m.: Cheer on this year's "shavees" at Jolly Pumpkin on the Old Mission Peninsula. Salon Saloon is doing the cutting. Live music and $2 pints. Can also donate online
Sat., Mar. 16: Short's Brewing is taking over the taps at 7 Monks Taproom in Traverse City. A portion of sales will be donated to the St. Baldrick's Foundation and several members of the 7 Monks and Short's staff will be shaving their heads after collecting donations. Rumor has it that Short's founder Joe Short will be shaving his locks (but not his 'stache). Cost: Donations to St. Baldrick's Foundation/cost of beer. Also, children's arts/crafts & Moomers Ice Cream (10:30 a.m. - Noon). The fun starts at 10 a.m.
Sat., Mar. 16, 5-7 p.m. Kilkenny's in TC is also shaving heads for donations to St. Baldrick's. More info on the pub's St. Patrick's festivities here.
