The 41st Annual 4-H Livestock Auction – held during the Northwestern Michigan Fair – boasted some of its best numbers ever. Some highlights:
• Gross auction total: $570,375.32
• 439 4-H'ers (ages 9-18) participated in the auction
• Zeke Goodwin Family Fund received thousands of dollars in donations. (Several 4-H'ers donated their entire auction proceeds to the family and many more 4-H'ers donated money out of their auction proceeds.
• Courtney Shively, a 4-H'er from Kingsley, donated all the proceeds from the sale of her swine (more than $1000.00) to the Wounded Warrior Fund
• Two local farmers/businesses purchased junior beef projects and donated them to be raffled off to a 4-H'er to use as steer projects for 2013
The number of animals donated to local food pantries/charities:
• 60 Swine
• 10 Steers
• 2 Lambs
• 1 Pens of Chickens
Total live weights of animals donated: 28,337 pounds
